Barbra Streisand

Remember when Barbra Streisand sued the group that was documenting the coast of California in aerial photos?  Well the group is the California Coastal Records Project, www.Californiacoastline.org and they continue to do magnificent work.  I suggest going to their site, searching Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf, and then moving the right hand arrows slowly as the photos take you south along the beaches to Monterey.  It’s not as fun as walking the most beautiful 40 miles around….but, it will give you a wonderful look at this amazing landscape.   Please remember that you have NOT burned any calories during this adventure.

I am fortunate that my brother-in-law, Chuck Perez, is a pilot and fabulous photographer.  Our Walk the Bay looks quite amazing from the air.  Here are some shots of the beaches on Day Two of the walk.

Snowy Plover Sighting

While walking near the Pajaro River this weekend we spotted a dozen Snowy Plovers watching over their nests on the beach.

Many people feel a bit nervous to set off on a self guided hiking vacation.  Well, I must assure everyone that Walk the Bay is truly a very special self-guided trip.  It is virtually impossible to get lost.  To illustrate the point, friends invented the t-shirt map.  All you have to do is be able to put on your t-shirt front to back and then follow the directions.

The origin of Walk the Bay can be traced back to the late 90’s. I resolved to walk the entire coast of California. I recruited hearty friends to join me and we logged over 100 miles. Some mistakes were made. This postcard was sent to me by an exhausted hiker after a particularly gruesome day.
